When my ancestors were brought to the Caribbean their enslavers had a clear strategy to keep them under control – make them forget who they were.
So they divided families and made sure their languages were forgotten. Dances, clothing, cultural practices, any connection with their heritage was destroyed and a false division was instilled based on skin colour and roles.
The way I see it, that same enslavement strategy is happening across all of humanity. Urban sprawl and excessive indoor life is cutting us off from the language of nature. We are sealed away from all our relations – the birds, the bees and the wild creatures and we are being made to forget who we really are.
Without the unifying force of nature we can be easily divided, segregated and taught to hate by a mass media that dishes up fear for breakfast and serves terror for lunch with a side helping of despair.
With the constant onslaught of distractions we may forget the core of who we are as a miraculous part of nature whose cells are made of stardust and whose roots are of the Earth itself, and be told lies that make us feel unworthy, ashamed and miserable.
Activist and leader Marcus Garvey said ‘’A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.’
Whilst he delivered this message to Africans in the diaspora, his statement equally applies to all of us who have forgotten our roots in nature – without those roots we are perishing.
Many of us are now choosing to free ourselves from this unnatural enslavement. We connect to the land, plant seeds, put our hands in the soil and awaken our senses in connection with nature. Once we remember the true miracle of who we really are, we are free to choose and create a new reality. But with daily obligations, work to do and the constant lure of electronic screens, it’s not always easy
I created the ‘I AM Nature’ Affirmation cards as a simple and effective pathway for us to remember our natural roots; the core of our true nature that is undiminished by circumstances and time.
The ‘I AM Nature’ cards deliver a positive affirmation that is both true about our inner nature and the world around us. They show us how deeply we are interconnected to the natural world.
The ‘I AM Nature’ practice encourages tangible, sensory connection to the nature around you – wherever you live – so you can slow down open up your senses and embody your true qualities.
It is somewhat paradoxical but the more we go outside to explore the nature around us, the more life, vitality, wellbeing and richness it brings to our inner life.
And the more we develop our personal nature, the more love we have to give to the world around us. It’s a win/win cycle.
I invite you to be part of this movement of reclaiming our true nature. You can get your own deck of ‘I AM Nature’ Affirmation cards at www.liveyournature.com/iamnature for just $28 ($32 with worldwide shipping)
These powerful cards are waiting for your support to bring them into life – there is a crowdfunding campaign for them to be printed which ends on 7th July 2016. For every deck sold a donation will be made to Tree Sisters to plant 10 trees which will put down roots for ourselves and future generations to thrive.
Let us remember our natural roots and declare to ourselves and the rest of the world that ‘I AM Nature.’
