I wanted to spend time in the dark with my family to watch the stars as we’ve had some amazingly clear nights recently. Just as light was fading we decided to create an impromptu fire to keep us warm while we star gazed.
My daughter and I danced around for a while, making our own music. My son had to have a long stick to poke the fire with while my man kept the flames burning. The dogs played wildly like wolves.
Given the powerful and hypnotic nature of fire, it was a challenge to take our eyes off the flames to look up to the cosmos but of course we did as the stars were an incredible sight too. We relaxed, talked, shared some impromptu poems and reminded ourselves that this is what our ancestors would have done every night. It’s such good medicine – and I need to do this way more often.
